If you’ve never made caramel sauce because you have a “sugar melting phobia” then this caramel sauce is for you.
This Simple Caramel Sauce is just that — SIMPLE! No sugar melting required. Don’t get me wrong, caramel sauces made that way are divine, I’ve made them before, but you have to be so, so careful while melting the sugar. Even when you’re careful, it doesn’t always work out, at least it hasn’t always for me. So if you are a caramel sauce lover but also a sugar-melting phobic then I’ve got your back today.
Let me introduce you this amazing Simple Caramel Sauce. It’s so easy to make it’s almost embarrassing. The great thing about this caramel sauce is you can easily turn it into a salted caramel sauce if that suits your tastebuds. Just add 1/2 to 1 tsp. sea salt (or Kosher is fine too).
I am such a sucker for anything that involves caramel. I could drink the stuff. I usually have a little ice cream with my caramel sauce and I’ve been known to just eat it with a spoon, right out of the jar. Everything just tastes better with caramel sauce, don’t you agree? Enjoy!
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup whipping cream
- pinch of salt (or 1/2 -1 tsp. if you want a salted caramel version)
- 1 tsp. vanilla
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium/medium-low heat.
Add brown sugar and whisk for 1 minute. Add the salt and cream and bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 3-4 minutes. (I usually do about 3 1/2 minutes)
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
