Units Scale
  • 1 pork breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
  • 7 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 (16.3 ounce) can refrigerated biscuits, large size like Grands
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray the bottom and sides of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until completely browned. Drain off any fat.
  3. Sprinkle the flour evenly over sausage and continue to cook & stir for 1 minute. Add the milk and stir scraping any browned bits from the bottom of your pan. Continue to cook, stirring often, about 5 to 7 minutes. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Remove from heat.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, 1/2 cup milk and pepper. Set aside.
  5. Cut each biscuit in quarters and arrange in a single layer over eggs. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of the grated cheddar cheese over the biscuits. Next pour the egg mixture over the cheese followed by the sausage gravy and the remaining grated cheese.
  6. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until eggs are sets, cheese is melted and biscuits are golding brown.

  • I played around with this recipe and layered it a couple different ways. You can either make it the way I explain in the instructions or you can layer it this way: half the biscuits on the bottom, then pour the egg mixture followed by the sausage gravy, 2/3 the cheese, remaining biscuits and then the remaining cheese.  My boys said they couldn’t really tell a difference in how it baked up and I’m not sure I could either.
