Make sure you use a medium to large size saucepan for this syrup. Once you take it off the heat and add the vanilla and baking soda it will foam up and almost triple in size.
For some variation, try adding a teaspoon of coconut extract in place of the vanilla. It’s amazing!
- 1 stick butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- In a medium/large saucepan combine butter, sugar and buttermilk, bring to a boil, stirring often.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and baking soda until well-combined. (Mixture will become very foamy and triple in size, so make sure your pan is large enough).
- Serve warm over pancakes, french toast, waffles, french toast casserole, etc.
