This Simple Caramel Sauce is delectable and so, so simple to make. Delicious drizzled over ice cream, cake, cheesecake or whatever else you can think of!
If you’ve never made caramel sauce because you have a “sugar melting phobia” then this caramel sauce is for you.
This Simple Caramel Sauce is just that — SIMPLE! No sugar melting required. Don’t get me wrong, caramel sauces made that way are divine, I’ve made them before, but you have to be so, so careful while melting the sugar and can be a little stressful.
So if you are a caramel sauce lover, but also a sugar-melting phobic, then I’ve got your back today.
Let me introduce you this amazing Simple Caramel Sauce.
It’s so easy to make it’s almost embarrassing. The great thing about this caramel sauce is you can easily turn it into a salted caramel sauce if that suits your tastebuds. Just add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt (kosher or sea salt is what I use) and then you’ll have the sweet and salty thing going and it’s perfection.
Yes, I am a chocolate fanatic and could eat, sleep and breathe chocolate. But caramel anything also is a weakness of mine. Just give me a spoon and a jar of caramel sauce and I am a happy girl for life.
I could drink the stuff. I usually have a little ice cream with my caramel sauce and I’ve been known to just eat it with a spoon, right out of the jar.
Everything just tastes better with caramel sauce, don’t you agree?
Enjoy!

Simple Caramel Sauce
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 8 to 10 servings 1x
Description
This Simple Caramel Sauce is delectable and so, so simple to make. Delicious drizzled over ice cream, cake, cheesecake or whatever else you can think of!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter (I use salted)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- pinch of salt (or 1/4 to 1/2 if you want a salted caramel version)
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, add the butter, brown sugar, cream and salt. Cook over medium-low heat until the butter is melted, stirring occasionally. Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a simmer, and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. The sauce will be thin, but it will slightly thicken as it cools.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Store in the refrigerator.

This looks great. But I am not sure from the recipe when to add the heavy cream?
Oops, fixed it. Thanks Teresa!
