If cooking a huge turkey causes you major anxiety or completely terrifies you, then this Slow Cooker Turkey Breast will be your new BFF. It’s so simple to throw together, it’s juicy and unbelievably delicious.
My sister called me the other day wondering why in the heck my Slow Cooker Turkey Breast recipe wasn’t on my site.
It was a perfectly legit question.
After all, I have been cooking turkey breasts this way for the last 15+ years. Some of the teachers and aides at my boy’s elementary school came to love me for my slow cooker turkey breast recipe (true story!).
I really can’t believe I’ve never shared this before. What was I thinking?
With Thanksgiving just a week away, I figured now would be the perfect time to share my favorite way to cook a turkey breast.
Now while I love a big, gorgeous golden turkey, a small, simple turkey breast has always been just perfect for the seven of us. I can honestly say, I’ve never cooked a whole turkey . . . gasp!!! I’ve always left that up to my mom or mother-in-law (lol!).
I’m partial to homemade cranberries on my turkey, but there are a few picky eaters in this family that only want gravy. No need to fear, you can make delicious gravy using all the juices in your slow cooker. I usually strain the juice and add some water and cornstarch and bring it to a boil in a saucepan. Add a little salt and pepper if needed and voila, you’ve got some delicious gravy. Sometimes I will add some of the flavoring from the packet that comes inside the turkey breast.
This is such a simple dinner. I often times will just cook a turkey breast so we can have turkey sandwiches. No need to just make this at Thanksgiving, it’s perfect anytime of the year.
Slow Cooker Turkey Breast
- Total Time: 6 hours 5 minutes
Description
If cooking a huge turkey causes you major anxiety or completely terrifies you, then this Slow Cooker Turkey Breast will be your new BFF. It’s so simple to throw together, it’s juicy and unbelievably delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 turkey breast ((5–7 lbs, bone in))
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Lemon pepper
- 1 can ((15 oz) chicken broth)
Instructions
- Rinse your turkey breast with water and pat dry with paper towel and place in your slow cooker.
- Pour melted butter over the top and sprinkle generously with lemon pepper.
- Pour can of chicken broth around the turkey breast.
- Put lid on and cook on high for 6 hours. If the lid won’t fit because of the size and shape of the turkey breast, cover your slow cooker tightly with tin foil, making sure it’s sealed all the way around. .
- Let stand for about 10 minutes before caring.
Notes
I have cooked a completely frozen turkey breast and it usually takes about an hour longer. I usually put the frozen turkey breast in the fridge a day before I’m going to cook it. If my turkey breast is partially thawed, I will cook it on high for 1 hour and then reduce the heat to low and cook for the remaining 5 hours.
All slow cookers are different, so if your slow cooker tends to cook on the hot side, you may want to check your turkey breast after about 5 hours.
