Units Scale


  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 3 large)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Browned Butter Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons half and half


  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 10×15 jelly roll pan.
  2. In bowl of an electric mixer (or you can use a hand mixer), combine the sugar, sour cream, butter and eggs. Mix on low speed, scraping bowl occasionally, until combined. Add bananas and vanilla and mix on low speed for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add flour, salt and baking soda and mix on medium speed just until combined (about 1 minute). Pour into prepared pan and bake 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool until just slightly warm and frost with Browned Butter Frosting (recipe below).

Browned Butter Frosting:

  1. In a small saucepan, brown butter over medium heat until golden brown in color and golden brown flecks appear, swirling pan frequently. (Butter will become a little foamy). Remove from heat and pour into a medium size bowl, cool slightly. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and half & half, mix until smooth and spreadable. (I like to use my hand mixer for this).
